At YLT we provide practical and emotional support to childhood survivors, parents, and carers of childhood cancer during and after the treatment period. We support children with different types of cancer in Nigeria. Our services are designed and delivered by people who have experienced cancer to help improve the experiences of others. Cancer patients do go through a lot of challenges before and after treatment. Our team of experts and trained volunteers are on hand to answer all your questions. The aim of the Emotional Support Programme is to help:
- Connect and share with others who have been through similar experiences with cancer
- Get a sense of control back in your life through facing your fears and setting goals for the future
- Discuss negative emotions and learn strategies for how to manage them
- Re-establish your sense of self and build self-esteem
- Create an action plan to begin to tackle the fears and challenges you face head-on
We are here to listen and inform you of relevant information to help you through this journey. We are able to deliver our support through the following:
Support Groups
Support groups are made up of a number of people from survivors, volunteers, medical professionals, carers, parents, and others. The groups are trained and will give you a warm welcome and be introduced to everyone. You are not obliged to talk about yourself or your cancer treatment but feel free to listen and interact with others. It can take a few meetings before feeling comfortable enough to open up about your experience so far. Meetings vary from social events, activities, or informed sessions. The group serves as a source of support through your journey care plan which could include counselling and bereavement services. You can request to join a support group by clicking
You can also join our wider network for additional support through our social media handle pages:
Telephone Pals
Are you lonely and struggling with anxiety or low moods? Are you struggling with the treatment, side effects such as hair loss, or emotional challenges during and after the treatment? We provide telephone pals who have been through similar situations and wish to share their experiences with others. The telephone pals are volunteers and trained persons informed on how to give emotional support.
YLT Kit
We offer free gifts called our YLT Kit to children going through cancer treatment. These are to put a smile on their faces and to entertain them whilst receiving treatment. You will need to order this free kit by identifying the age range and gender of the child so we can get the right things in the pack. Please kindly fill in the form to request the right pack.
